UK heavy prog four-piece Godsticks are back today with their new single \u2018Hold Back\u2019. The single, taken from their latest and highly praised album VOiD, comes alongside a brilliant new playthrough video from guitarists Darran Charles & Gavin Bushell and bassist Francis George.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGodsticks are clever, versatile bastards\u2026hits harder and with greater intent than anything they have attempted before\u201d – PROG<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking about the new single, the band shared \u201cHold Back is a particularly tense song for us, both lyrically and musically. It\u2019s about those who provide an emotional crutch for a friend who constantly demands being the centre of attention, and isn\u2019t afraid of manufacturing dramatic scenarios to ensure the focus on them never wavers. We\u2019ve all had experience of these characters and it\u2019s draining.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The quick pace and precision of the riffs is something we really had to work on to nail in the studio. We of course rarely give any consideration to any potential difficulty performing songs live when writing, preferring instead to kick that proverbial can as far as we can down the road (that\u2019s a problem for future Godsticks and we don\u2019t care much for them!), and indeed this song is one that required a disproportionate amount of rehearsal. That hard work certainly paid off when we first began playing the new songs live, and the joy of the band locking in for this track is almost indescribable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We thought it would be cool to film a little playthrough of this track. We\u2019re also in the process of mixing a live version of it too so stay tuned!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
